Mature Size: 40-50' tall by 25-35' wide Growth Rate: Moderate to fast
Form / Shape: Upright, open oval, can be multi or single-stemmed Drought Tolerance: Good
Flower / Fruit: Catkins, 2-4" long; blooms in Spring; Nut produced in Spring Soil: Well drained, moist, fertile, humus rich soil; very tolerant of moist sites
Foliage: Alternate, simple; medium to dark green, serrated leaves turns shades of yellow in the Fall Light: Full sun to part shade
Bark:  Smooth, greenish brown when young; mature bark exfoliates in large, papery sheets with a gray-brown to chalky tan to beige Pruning: To maintain central leaders and remove low hanging limbs; do not prune or trim late Winter through Spring when sap is flowing
  Uses: Specimen, buffer areas, lawns, parks, as a Winter accent with bark interest
